The third Bishop of Rome, Anacletus served c. 80–92 AD, ordaining priests and dividing Rome into twenty-five parishes. He was martyred at the end of his pontificate and buried near St. Peter's tomb in the Vatican Necropolis. His name (as Cletus) remains in the Roman Canon of the Mass.
