Thérèse of Lisieux

Thérèse of Lisieux

18731897

Born in Alençon in 1873, Thérèse Martin entered the Carmelite convent of Lisieux at fifteen after petitioning Pope Leo XIII directly in Rome. She lived nine hidden years of prayer and small service, developing her 'Little Way' of spiritual childhood — trusting God completely in ordinary life rather than seeking extraordinary feats. She died of tuberculosis at twenty-four, and her posthumously published autobiography, 'Story of a Soul,' became a global phenomenon. She was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1997.

Remigius of Reims

Remigius of Reims

c. 437 ADJanuary 13, 533 AD

Remigius of Reims became bishop of the ecclesiastical capital of the Frankish region at twenty-one, and served that same see for seventy years — long enough to baptize a king. On Christmas Day 496, he poured water over Clovis I, King of the Franks, and watched roughly three thousand barbarian warriors follow their king into the font, laying the foundation for Catholic France.
