A mid-2nd century Pope who governed Rome from around 140 to 154, confronting the heresies of Valentinus, Cerdon, and Marcion. Believed to be the brother of Hermas, author of The Shepherd, he decreed that Easter be kept on a Sunday and is credited with building the church of Santa Pudenziana in Rome.
